Watoto – Restore Tour

The Child Warrior Choir will be in Victoria on November 2. A Donor Breakfast will be held on November 2 @ Delta Ocean Point Resort and Spa from 8:30am – 10:30 am.  Please RSVP to amanda@watoto.ca . The children will spend the rest of the day at Glad Tidings Church with a concert @ 7pm.

These children were taken from their homes in Africa to become child warriors. Watoto has rescues them. Most of them become orphans as they were taken too young to remember where their family are or where home is. Watoto looks after these children and this is how the choir was started. They have sung for the Queen and Presidents. Now they sing for us.

You are invited, for the children.

This is my friend Fred’s Tribute to his dog Winston. I too know the pain of losing a pet but the joy in knowing you had such a great friend.

Blessings Fred!

Farwell My Friend “Winston Carver” May 2, 1994 to Oct 12, 2010

Last week we sent our 16 plus year old American Cocker Spaniel “Winston Carver” to Heaven.

Time: Just before Noon on October 12, 2010.

Jane bought Winston for my 50th Birthday. Oh what a Great friend and companion he was to us throughout his life. Winston was a very social Dog, he loved everyone. Jane and Winston bonded right in the beginning. Jane would head out in the morning for a walk with Winston, which would be an adventure for both. Winston of course was the pack leader. I’m sure they often walked 4-5 Miles a day with Winston leading the way. Winston’s tail always going… showing his happiness when out for walk with his mum.

When it was time for Winston’s monthly haircut, I would take them both on my way to work to his groomer Sherry, about 5 Miles from our home. They would both walk home. On route they would stop at my Mothers for tea and a lunch snack…My mother never had Dog biscuits and would give Winston one of her whipped shortbread cookies. Well…. he would run up the front stairs and when my Mother opened the door and he almost run her over to get to the cupboard where he knew she kept her Cookies….Now Winston’s every trip to Grannies Pad was with excitement with the thought of getting another one of her delicious whipped shortbread cookies.

Jane would pack lunch for them both when I went to work and the two of them would head out for the day exploring places and beaches. Sometimes Jane would call me, uncertain where she was, and I would ask her to give me a reference point so I could give her an idea where she was, and what direction to head home. You See Jane gave Winston her love in return by following him

My Dog, or shall I say Jane’s Dog,….  always greet me when I came home, along with anyone that came to visit us…and he often would piddle on the floor from excitement of seeing you. I could go on and on about the Joy Winston brought us all.

Now Winston is running and chasing birds, his eye sight and hearing is back and he no longer has pain from his arthritis in his back and rear legs. He certainly is enjoying Grammas shortbread cookies again.

Jane and I are of course are missing our best friend and we will always remember Winston and the joy he brought to us every day  along with his unconditional love.

The hardest thing in my life was October 12th when  we took Winston to the vet to go to Heaven… but yet it was a very humane way to say good bye to him and his pain from old age. We figure “Winnie” was over 110 in Dog years. He had a wonderful life and touched a lot of hearts along the way……Farewell my Friend

See below a poem written by our friend Gerry who also found enjoyment and friendship with our Winston.

YOU picked me and took me home,

You kept me safe from pup
‘til grown.

You gave your heart and I gave mine,

Our bond will last throughout all
time.

When I was good you bought me
treats,

I loved them all, especially sweets.

Beacon cones, oh what a spread,

My eyes rolled back inside my head.

We went to the park and had some
walks,

I chased the squirrels and we had
some talks.

We went to the beach and I paddled
‘round,

You watched me dig rocks from the
ground.

I had my toys who
couldn’t speak,

Except one friend whom I called
“Squeak”.

I counted them daily
‘cause I could see,

Predators watching from the TV.

I wasn’t too fond of big
black dogs,

Would rather have kissed a bright
green frog.

I liked to eat bugs and chase black
birds,

And be so cute….
you’d be lost for words.

I never complained when
you’d poke and prod,

Just shook my head and thought,
“Oh sod”!

You cared for me like no others
would.

And I gave you all the kisses I
could.

I got my treat the same time each
night,

If you forgot, I’d get a
fright,

And lead to that drawer of mine,

It’s simple you see, I
could tell time.

Although I’m gone, I
won’t be far,

I’m in the park;
I’m in the car,

I’m the breeze in the
trees,

I’m the rustle in the
leaves.

I’ll wait for you beside
“The Gate”,

So bring good treats for my sake!

There’ll be a gang to
welcome you,

Including me; your Winnie the Pooh.

Yes, YOU picked me and took me home,

You kept me safe from pup
‘til grown.

You need to know I had a ball,

My Mom and Dad were best of all.

With Love and Hugs from Auntie
Geri.

HAVE YOUR BEST YEAR EVER IN 2010 !
